3 Points that Determine Whether You Should Your Reface or Replace Your Kitchen Cabinets

If you are looking at diving into remodeling your kitchen, the cost is a big factor. Depending on the size of your kitchen and the extent of your remodel, you could be looking at $25,000 – $50,000 in costs. With costs so high people often look for ways to cut or reduce the spending and one option is refacing your existing cabinets. By refacing your cabinets you could save up to 50% of the cost of your remodeling budget. Not sure if you can use your existing cabinets? Check out these 3 criteria points that help determine whether you need to replace or reface your kitchen cabinets.

    Cabinet Quality

    1. Cabinet Quality

The quality of your cabinets is crucial in determining whether they can be replaced. If they are ultra-cheap, low-grade quality, such as being made from particleboard, then refacing isn’t an option. In order for a refacing process to work well, we need to make sure that the cabinet box is good, and often with cheap cabinets, it’s not. If you reface then you’ll end up wasting money as your cabinet will still probably fall apart in the future.

    2. Cabinets are Damaged

Cabinet refacing doesn’t repair your cabinets, so if your cabinets have water damage, are covered in mold, have swelling, are chewed by a dog, etc your cabinets cannot be refaced. But with the cabinet refacing products we can replace the cabinet box on the ones that need it and reface all the cabinets to make them look like they were always together. This option will still save you money by allowing you to only replace the ones that need to.

    3. Want to Change the Layout

Cabinet refacing is meant for kitchens that want to be kept in the same configuration. If you want to completely change the layout it may require more or different size cabinets. But we also work with complete kitchen remodels so we can work out a hybrid where some of the cabinets stay and we can add new cabinets to meet the new layout requirements; then reface them all to make them look the same.
